A skincare routine for oily, acne-prone skin in Pakistan

Four steps, in order, with the actives that do the work. Built for heat, dust and humidity rather than a European winter.

Most routines sold to Pakistani women were designed somewhere much colder. They assume a dry winter, central heating and skin that needs sealing. Then you apply them in Lahore in June and wonder why your face is producing more oil than before.

Oily skin here is not a flaw to be scrubbed away. It is skin doing exactly what it should in heat and humidity. The job is not to strip it — it is to keep pores clear so the oil has somewhere to go.

The four steps, in order

1. Cleanse, morning and evening

Use something with salicylic acid. It is a beta-hydroxy acid, and the reason it matters for acne rather than any other acid is that it is oil-soluble — it can travel into the pore itself and loosen the mix of sebum and dead skin blocking it. Surface exfoliants cannot do that.

TJs Acne Face Wash is built on it. One instruction on its pack is worth repeating because everyone ignores it: do not dry your face with a towel afterwards. Let it air-dry. Towels drag at inflamed skin and move bacteria back onto a face you have just cleaned.

2. Treat the spots, not the whole face

This is where most people go wrong. An active blemish needs targeted treatment; the rest of your face does not need punishing alongside it.

TJs Tea Tree Acne Gel goes directly on and slightly around the blemish. Because it absorbs rather than sitting on top, you can wear it under makeup and reapply through the day.

3. Moisturise anyway

Oily skin still needs water. Skipping moisturiser is the single most common mistake, and it backfires — strip the skin and it compensates by producing more oil.

What you want is a humectant rather than an occlusive: something that draws water in rather than sealing it under a layer of oil. TJs Mosturising Lotion uses hyaluronic acid for exactly that, which is why it stays light enough for June.

4. Sunscreen, every single morning

Non-negotiable, and the step that decides whether any of the rest was worth doing. More on that below.

The weekly step

Once or twice a week, when congestion builds up, use a clay mask. Not the kind that sets hard and cracks — that pulls moisture out along with the oil and leaves your face tight enough to need rescuing.

TJs Tea Tree Acne Collagen Cream Mask uses kaolin, a milder clay, with liquorice root, Chinese skullcap and shea butter in the base. It stays soft for the full thirty minutes instead of cracking.

What to skip

Scrubbing. Physical scrubs on active acne spread bacteria and inflame skin that is already inflamed. Inflammation is one of the things that triggers pigmentation, which is how a breakout turns into a mark that lasts months.

Washing more than twice a day. It does not remove more oil. It removes more barrier.

Changing everything at once. If you start four new products on Monday and your skin reacts on Thursday, you have learned nothing. Add one thing at a time.

About the marks left behind

Clearing a breakout and clearing what it leaves behind are two different jobs. Once the flare-up has settled, TJs Acne No-mark Recuperate Lotion contains retinol — the ingredient with the deepest evidence base for skin renewal — alongside Centella asiatica.

Use it at night, and wear sunscreen the next day. Retinol makes skin more sensitive to sunlight, and sun exposure is what darkens post-acne marks in the first place. Without sun protection you are undoing the work every afternoon.

How long

Skin renews on its own schedule. Give any routine six to eight weeks of consistent use before deciding it does not work. Most people change products at week three, which is exactly when nothing has happened yet.
