Most clay masks for oily skin punish it. They set hard, pull moisture out along with the oil, and leave your face tight enough that you immediately need a moisturiser to recover. This one is built differently.
Kaolin does the drawing work — a mild clay that absorbs excess oil without the aggressive tightening of bentonite. Around it sits a genuinely well-composed botanical set: Glycyrrhiza glabra (liquorice) root, Scutellaria baicalensis (Chinese skullcap) root, Sophora angustifolia root and Taraxacum (dandelion) extract, all long-established calming and brightening ingredients in East Asian formulation. Shea butter, bisabolol, allantoin and vitamin E keep the base creamy rather than chalky.
The result is a mask that stays soft on the face for the full thirty minutes rather than cracking, and rinses off without that stripped feeling.
Use it once every one to two days when congestion is building, then drop back to once or twice a week as things settle. It is the weekly reset in the TJs acne routine — the Acne Face Wash handles every day, the Tea Tree Acne Gel handles emergencies, and this handles the underlying congestion.
It comes in a salon-size tube, which is why it lasts through months of weekly use.
- Thirty minutes seems long for a clay mask. Is that right?
- It is what the pack directs, and it works because this is a cream mask rather than a setting clay. It stays soft on the skin instead of drying hard, so the longer time is comfortable.
- How often should I use it?
- Once every one to two days while congestion is building, then once or twice a week to maintain.
- Will it dry out my skin?
- Shea butter, bisabolol and vitamin E are in the base specifically to prevent that. Most people do not need a heavy moisturiser afterwards.
