Cracked heels: the three-step fix salons actually use
Soak, scrub, seal — in that order, once a week. Why moisturiser alone never works, and the overnight trick that does.
Cracked heels are the most common thing people try to fix with the wrong product. They buy a thick cream, apply it to hard callus, and wonder why nothing changes after a month.
Cream cannot get through callus. That is what callus is for.
The fix is a sequence, and it is the same one a salon uses for a pedicure.
Why heels crack here
Feet in Pakistan take more than most. Open footwear for most of the year, dust, heat, and hard floors. Skin protects itself by thickening, and thickened skin has no flexibility — so when you put weight on it, it splits rather than gives.
Which means the answer is not "more moisturiser". It is removing the excess callus first, then keeping the new skin soft.
Step one — soak
Ten to fifteen minutes in warm water. This is not relaxation, it is preparation: soaking softens the hardened skin so it can actually be removed.
TJs Hands & Feet Soaks is the salon-quantity version. Skip this step and you spend twice as long scrubbing for half the result.
Longer is not better. Over-soaking softens the nails too much for clean cutting.
Step two — scrub
Now remove what the soak loosened. This needs a scrub built for body skin — heels and elbows are many times thicker than facial skin, and a gentle face exfoliant does nothing to them.
TJs Hands & Feet Scrub is formulated for it. Firm circular pressure on the heel, the ball of the foot and the outer edge.
For the same reason: keep it off your face.
Step three — seal
This is where most people stop too soon. Freshly softened skin is exposed and vulnerable — without something rich immediately afterwards, it dries out and starts rebuilding callus within days.
TJs Hands & Feet Massage Cream is formulated with slip, so you can massage properly rather than have it vanish on contact.
The overnight trick
For badly cracked heels, this is the one that works:
- Soak, scrub and dry thoroughly
- Apply the massage cream generously — more than feels sensible
- Put on cotton socks and sleep in them
Occlusion overnight keeps the cream against the skin for eight hours instead of eight minutes. Do it three nights in a row after a full soak-and-scrub and the difference is visible within a week.
Cotton, not synthetic. Synthetic traps sweat.
How often
The full sequence once a week. The cream nightly, or at least on the nights you remember.
Hands are different — they get washed constantly, so cream them daily.
When to see a doctor
If your heels are bleeding, painful to walk on, or you are diabetic, this is not a pedicure problem. Diabetes affects circulation and sensation in the feet, and what looks like an ordinary crack can become a serious wound. See a doctor before treating it at home.
The three products
Soak, scrub, cream. Used together once a week, they are what actually keeps heels from splitting.
