About this product
Some skin does not need a complicated product. It needs occlusion — a barrier that stops water escaping — and nothing that might irritate it further.
That is what this is. The ingredient list runs to five entries: aqua, vaseline, cetyl alcohol, liquid paraffin and perfume, with aloe vera in the formula. There is no acid, no retinol, no botanical complex and nothing competing for attention. For cracked hands in winter, dry patches on the elbows, or a face stripped by too much treatment, a short list is a feature rather than a shortcoming.
Petrolatum is one of the most effective and best-tolerated occlusives available. It is unfashionable precisely because it is cheap and boring, but it reduces water loss through the skin more reliably than most of what replaced it.
The pack describes it as keeping skin moisturised without an oily feel and fulfilling the hydration level of your skin, with the benefit of aloe vera.
Apply twice a day to the areas that need it. This is a spot-treatment moisturiser for dry patches rather than an all-over daily cream — for that, use the Mosturising Lotion.

- For a barrier cream, no — it is the point. Fewer ingredients means fewer things that can irritate skin which is already compromised.
- Can I use it on my face every day?
- It is designed for dry areas rather than all-over daily use. For an everyday face moisturiser, the Mosturising Lotion with hyaluronic acid is the better fit.
- Will it block my pores?
- Petrolatum is occlusive, so it is not the right choice for oily or breakout-prone areas. Use it where skin is dry.
